Yeah I was thinking the ARG and Portal 2 itself had your fingerprints all over it (in a good way).
Congrats on the release, it's a great game and I'm not through it yet. My only nitpick is the uber-consoley feel.

Well, the math here is simple.
Minerva== Joyeuse
Who is of the same steel and temper as Durendal.
Durendal is an alternate spelling of Durandal, the name of one of the central characters in Bungie's Marathon.
If Durandal escapes==True, than Durandal==God.
Thus, Minerva is closer to God than Shodan.

I am afraid that Minerva is firmly on the back burner for the time being. At least that is the vibe I am getting.
However, what has become of the wrap up for poor Gordon Freeman and his story? Adam, are they even working of Half-life 2 Episode 3 anymore?

He was probably a key contributor to the whole idea, seeing how he first implemented the idea way back when he first announced his employment at Valve.

I think that (now deleted) comment is the first piece of spam to get past the ReCaptcha system.

The fileserver on hylobatidae just refuses to let me have it -- the connection times out no matter how many times I try and regardless of what browser or download manager I use.

Ooh, that worked! Thanks. The only other mirror I was finding was 404'ed.
Incidentally, my prying into the fileserver uncovered something interesting and potentially alarming. I noticed that when I stuck the URL of the download in Opera, it was redirecting to www.trollied.org. I was only able to get one blip of response from that server, namely its prowl.trollied.org subdomain -- and that was a second redirect, this one to an adware bomb site.
So yeah, something's up with that.

I plan to make a mind serise (if you don't know what that is look up Freeman's Mind on youtube) for MINERVA: Metastasis, but removing the HUD also removes the text messages. Anyone know a way around this?
If not I may have to give Minerva a voice, and that just wouldn't be right.
But preparing for the worst, I concluded that if I did give her a speeking role, she would have to be english becouse:
1) Adam is from the UK. [this is a fact]
2) the british accent gives that air of being well educated. [see any BBC documentery]
3) anything that is a liitle bit funny is made funnyer by a british accent.[see Monty Python]

Obviously, we're dealing with Rampancy. As usual.
Should burn itself out eventually. Only know two cases where that didn't happen.
As for Minerva, well, agree a voice would be jarring at best, but I agree far more it would kinda have to be a Brit. Meaning this in the best sense, you understand, but if someone had to figure out things about Adam Foster from reading the text in Minerva alone, few facts come up about him. British would be one. Big fan of Marathon probably would be another good guess.
Of course, you'd need someone who could swear well. Surprising how few people can. Best to avoid the whole mess. Hmm. Is there a way to disable HUD element by element? That might work.

you answered my question with the exact same question, but I remember reading in an iterveiw that adam used the chapter title feature for the messages.
PS: I always wounderd... why does the HEV suite have wireless diale-up conection? wireless dial-up in and of itself is something that just buggles the mind, Black Mesa does some stupid shit with it's grant money.

Why not just leave the HUD? It doesn't matter if it's there or not. If you must use a voice, make it a Russian female that sounds as close to possible as Ayn Rand. I still think that Minerva is her disembodied mind.
That trailer is remarkable. And I thought the Source engine was dated.

Well, a mind serise is a realistic(but commical) retelling of a game through the eyes of it's normaly silent protagenist, so making his "health" visable would kinda' ruin that. plus I'm going to alter ammo capastitys for some of the guns and having that vissable will realy brake the saspention of disbeliff.
As for Minerva's voice, I explained why I think she should have a British/English accent.
And I think I remember her using the term "bloody" the way english people do(as a sware word). And if the text was gone I could alter her speech(only a litlle I promess) to give better set-up for jokes, of course nothing story related would be altered, there is no telling what is important to Adam's plans.
PS: is "Lux Aeterna" what Minerva would call that world? I ask becouse I plan to have the video dicriptions writen by Minerva going something like this: "In this transmision test suject "Perseus" arives at the Combine outpost on this bezzar island."
but for the episiod where we see the portal it would just be: " ... lux Aeterna ... ". Is this a good idea?

You can also use some Godmode and just imitate taking damage. Also Perseus is reprogramed Combine soldier, so i think that he's way of thinking and doing things is specyfic.

Just wondering if Minerva is dead or if you are waiting for Half-life2 ep 3 to be released before any more updates are to be announced. as it has been 6 months since a new update. I realize the engine is becoming rather old now should we perhaps expect to wait until Half-life 3 to continue the story of Minerva?

by the time "Half Life 3" is out there willl be a new engine. he is likely waiting for the SDK for the portal 2 engine version. (he of corse can use it now, sence he is a valve employe, but we can't play 'tell the SDK is out)

If you must give her a voice, make it a speech to text voice. Many of them sound monotone. This would allow it to be ironic (ever taken over the universe in monotone?) and you could pick one with a british accent. Or you could do voice modulation in the GLaDOS style, but that sound like a lot of work for replacing what should be text
