Stick the images in your Creatures folder to see these beasts in their true, animated 3D glory. Oh, and download the free demo of the Spore Creature Creator too!
It seems the creature data is really embedded in the image data somehow - at least, running the image through pngout (which should remove all data chunks not needed for storing the image) does not destroy the creature data.
@Sortie: No, he didn't tell you to put .png pictures into a folder and they'll be automatically converted to 3D. He told you they would be animated & 3D! Even better! :-)
I wonder what happens if I take a screenshot from Out of Time and puts in into Spore.

You become a developer on Limbo of the Lost.
What are the minimum/recommended specs to run Spore?
PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOR WINDOWS XP
* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 512 MB RAM
* A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
* At least 6 GB of hard drive space
FOR WINDOWS VISTA
* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 768 MB RAM
* A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
* At least 6 GB of hard drive space
When launching the game, some Microsoft Vista users may receive a warning about running out of address space along with a link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. If you see this message, it is recommended that you follow the instructions and go to the website listed in the message to update your system.
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
* Intel Integrated Chipset, 945GM or above.
* 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent.
* 768 MB RAM
Supported Video Cards
ATI Radeon(TM) series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
2400, 2600, 2900,
3650, 3850
NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
GMA 950, GMA X3000, GMA X3100
Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slowly. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated chipsets featuring underclocked parts, such as the 945GU, GML, and GMS, will not perform adequately.
Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.
Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isnt listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.
The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.
I had a feeling this might happen. My rig is just too old anymore. My video card is a Geforce fx 5600...not quite enough to meet minimum specs. That and I think my processor is probably a bit on the slow side as well. And that's probably being kind. :) (It's an Athlon XP 2800+!!)
So to make a long story short...I NEED A NEW RIG! So donate now to the Nesretep Need A New Gaming Rig Foundation, cause he's poor too! LOL
Are those specs for the finished game? or just the monster creator?
These are in fact for the full game, Nesretep asked for the specs to run Spore, not the monster creator.
great gogily moogily, an awesome new game I will be able to run!
Anyone who played zelda OOT or others might find this amusing! some of them are pretty awsome.

The data necessary to recreate the creature is embedded in the alpha channel of the image.
I just happened to be watching my favorite anime tonight, and, gasp!, discovered a possible connection to Adam's choice of title! I don't know if y'all watch Trigun or not, but I, for one, love it.
Check this out:

Okay, then...watch this!

Obviously trigun has nothing to do with the name... My inside sources tell me that the name is justified by the following:
"On the helicopter leaving the island featured in Minerva: Metastasis, our hero is bit by a combine manufactured snake that is subsequently filled with vemon. As our unnamed hero slowly perishes, he must overcome the challenges of City 44."
Hence the name... "Out of Time"
Sounds to me more like you've picked up a case of apophenia there. You might as well just do a Google search for "Out Of Time" and point at anything that seems even remotely apropos to MINERVA.
As for Spore ... according to Wikipedia, the data is hidden in the least significant bit of each channel. Since this *is* part of the image data, pngout wouldn't even look for it. And researching this has gotten me interested in stenography Eeenteresting ...
Yeah, you could be right about that. I just thought it was interesting that two things I love share a name. Sure, it's coincidence, but it's cool nonetheless.
On the topic at hand, I learned of Spore the very day before the creature creator was released. I got all excited and starry-eyed, waiting and waiting for its release. And when the time finally came to download and install, I found my computer lacking in system requirements. Of all the luck!
So, have a blast, those of you who are Spore-compatible! Make a few for me, even.
No 4th July presents? I feel let down, the guys in the archives had fun celebrating it, but we can't...
We must conclude that Mr. Foster is vehemently un-American.
We don't pay much attention to US holidays on this side of the pond.
Except to say, "hey, the internet's faster today :)".
Maybe it's somewhere on the forums, but why isn't there a discussion about the OoT website:

Where are the crazy theories??
In the blog post before this one. :P. And on the Forum
Most of the speculation is here:

1. 2D Images embeding 3D? Holy hell
Posted by Sortie at 7:12PM, Tuesday June 17 2008
Did you just tell me to put .png pictures into a folder and they'll be automatically converted to 3D? Holy hell. Must be some embeded trailing data stream..
