I love the game so far, but I can't proceed anymore. This is fairly early in the first episode it's after you head down a ladder in the middle of the island. After I press a button a combine soldier comes over and blows a door open, after killing the combine and two other i head down the hallway and the game crashes. It happens there every time. I also have black blocky waves. I don't know if these problems are related but I would be grateful for help with either.

http://img12.imageshack.us/i/crasha.png/ This is right before the crash.

http://img41.imageshack.us/i/blackwaves.png/ The black waves. (they persist through gameplay too)

Waves are fixed in my in-progress version - I'll look into that crash. (Looks like someone else encountered it also!)

Estimated time until patch: 'ooh I don't know'.

Thanks for the reply. A friend of mine tried to help me with the crash, no luck there, but he did inform me that I was at the very end of the chapter and could move on to the next one without missing much. When I tried my game crashed and gave me the engine error ED_Alloc: no free edicts. I read that you we're working on it just wondering if anything had been released yet.

I got this too. While the mod seems sandboxish, I believe the problem lies in that you need to head back downstairs, not go up the stairs and through the door.
Having said that, when I went downstairs and loaded the next level I still get ED_Alloc: no free edicts when it tries to load the next level.

Edit: My water doesn't look too flash either

Sounds like exactly the same problem. I don't think there's much to do but wait.

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm having a similar problem in the exact same spot. I can kill the combine after he opens the door, but as soon as I pick up ammo from his dead body my game freezes up and keeps replaying the ammo pickup sound. I don't get any errors and I can't open the console to see what the problem is. I've been forced to ctrl+alt+del and kill hl2.exe everytime.

I am having the SAME problem.

MINERVA: Metastasis ran PERFECT until 7-7-2010 when I accidentally clicked the Go On-Line button when starting STEAM. The net effect of this STEAM, Half-Life games auto updated (GRRRR) to the "new" (05-2010) Mac-supporting "Source 2009" engine branch update.

PROBLEM(S)
A: Metastasis crashes (HARD!-Vid frozen, looping sound)
Crtl,Alt, Delete non-responsive, have to manually power OFF computer as I can not get back to the desktop.

Crash happens if :
1: I attempt to go thru blown door at the top of the stairs near the end of the Carcinogenesis level http://img12.imageshack.us/i/crasha.png/
2: If I double back and go downstairs I able "sometimes" (30-40%) make it to the next level. (If there are too many combine, if the firefight gets too hectic game will crash if I take the downstairs route, usually while I'm in, trying to clear the area of combine from near the room, running by/ strafing me that contains the ammo crate, health, shield chargers.
(Right outside that room the (2) turrets that become your friend later in the game...)

2: Waves, water looks like crap, Sun, etc looks funky (I think)

3: Getting a Node out of date: rebuilding message.

Install info:
OS=Win 7 Pro, x64, American English
ORANGE BOX-retail. Approx install date of Orange Box 1-2010
Orange box games installed/validated, updated and then only run in OFF-LINE mode.

Metastasis installed 1-10-2010 using file from http://www.moddb.com/mods/minerva/downloads/minerva-metastasis-full-patched:

Is there a "newer" file out yet?

Is there a file section on this board?

Nope, Adam is still working on a patch in his free time so we all just have to be patient.

In another thread on the subject Adam had mentioned working on a patch,

http://www.hylobatidae.org/minerva/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=323&p=2567#p2567

I was hoping there was a beta download, some news on how he was progressing.

(As a suggestion to someone that can edit the pages http://www.hylobatidae.org/minerva/ , http://www.hylobatidae.org/minerva/phosphenes.shtml.... How about editing them with some info about the "Mac enabled" 5-2010 engine revamp... and how it has negatively affected the mod.)

EG: List the bugs people are reporting, put some info on how the patch is progressing. Surely that is doable.
(For those inside the "box" so to speak, put yourself in the shoes of someone who's all the sudden having problems with their favorite game that is trying to get info. Someone that has no idea a major? revamp was done 5-2010 to make the engine "Mac" friendly.)

One thing that concerns me is that Adam will move on (as one person here http://www.hylobatidae.org/minerva/blogsheep.php?action=articleinfo&id=102has suggested) focusing on newer projects, Some saying forget about Metastasis... which would be a shame as the quality of Metastasis is FIRST CLASS.

The problem I see with someone else fixing Metastasis is that they would be starting from scratch, and that Adam with his in-depth knowledge of his "baby", and being able to talk DIRECTLY to the guys who wrote the "new" "Mac enabled" 5-2010 engine (downgrade) would be done before the others had left the starting gate.

One last thought: Long time customer here, but does not know everything that is "Valve"...
If I was running Valve (and they may already do the below???) I would with a new engine update that breaks things:

1: Issue papers on how it differs, and give detailed write-ups (examples) on how to get the mods working again.
(How about using Metastasis as one of the fix examples, it's retail quality... it being good enough that Valve hired the person who made it!)

2: Publish info on workarounds the end-use can do.

3: If Steampowered lists a mod, there should be links on the Steampowered page to to troubleshooting, links to issues that are affecting the mod. (Yes I know Valve did not "make" xyz mod, but they have profited from those mods as they help keep a series alive during the LONGGGG episode releases.

4: There should be a way to "roll-back" to a previous engine, while I understand "why" Steam wants everyone using the same software revision for multiplayer, (and for support reasons) for those of us that play singleplayer there needs to be OPTIONS to revert back to a previously WORKING STATE.

I'm having the same issue in the same spot. Latest nVidia drivers. Latest Mod files (never played it before, was really diggin' the more tactical gameplay and the awesome tunes).

AMD 64 X2 6000+
2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
2x8800GT SLI

If that matters.

Great mod, just wish I could finish it.
