Hello! New Minerva convert drawn in from a little link Valve left in a [Steam News] popup.

Anywho, I played through Minerva and was absolutely floored by the storyline and quality of the mod. I really would like to learn more about the storyline and am quite confused.

I want to learn all about the series from start to finish, in proper order (guess I fudged that already). I found a mod created by Adam called 'Someplace Else' for Half Life 1.

I've downloaded the file and intend to play it, but I don't know if what I'm doing is proper. People seem to mention that Minerva is the third and final episode of... something. So that assumes Someplace Else is episode 1, where is episode 2? People talk about vast alterations in story between "Chapters" when I consider chapters to be within the game itself.

Who is right and who is just mixing up the words: Episodes, Chapters, and Beta release version?

I'm really excited to learn more, and I'm already partial toward the faceless driver (especially because I'm a big fan of SS1 and SS2). So would someone mind clearing up how I can get all of the Mods for this series and what order to play them?

I really hope I'm just confused and this is really the first chapter, I'd like to see much more.

Thanks,
StormEffect

Welcome!
Adam discusses some of this stuff here. Let's see if I get this right. The plan is for there to be 3 chapters in Minerva. The one you just played, Metastasis, is chapter 1. Adam is apparently planning Chapter 2 now, to be called "Out of Time", but that will certainly be awhile. Metastasis itself was released "episodically" (the first 2 levels individually, then the last 2 together), so I suppose you could call the levels within Metastasis "episodes". But that doesn't really matter now, since what you played had all the "episodes". (Carcinogenesis, Downhill Struggle, Depth Charge, Pegasus).

Also, Minerva is an "indirect sequel" to Someplace Else. It doesn't really matter which order you play them in though.

Heh, join the club. Check out the story discussion forum (Famine). We're confused too. Oh, and playing Someplace Else is unlikely to make you less confused! Enjoy!

Hahahahaahahaha.

Oh dear. Something about that line had me laughing pretty hard.

I'll be sure to head on over. To Famine. Gosh, is there a dark theme for these forums or what? :D

Also, beware of the Horsemen (of the probably impending apocalypse) and of their arbitrary guidelines!
For lighter reading, check out the Distractions forum.

Anyway, welcome to City... ahem... to the Minerva forum. :-)
