I have always wanted to see a fight between swarms of headcrabs and facehuggers.
Half a dozen xenomorph drones climbing over a gargantua, the great plasma-armed beast swatting them away and toasting them until the alien queen drags itself into the fray.
HEVC soldiers carefully exploring an infested wing of Black Mesa, tip-toe-ing through research facilities as things scutter through the ceiling.

It could concievably work.

Oh, it wouldn't be bad in and of itself, I was referring more to just throwing it into my existing single-player mod idea with no warning. An "Alien vs Predator vs Combine" mod would be pretty cool.

I've put some thought into how multiplayer might work ... I suppose humans and aliens could work more or less the same way they do in the original AvP2 computer game ... Combine might have some alternate vision modes like the Predators do (say, one for detecting Predators and one for detecting Aliens). One idea I had was to adjust Predators a bit so they can't see the normal human spectrum (just infrared, "electromagnetic" or whatever they use to see Xenomorphs, and the "predator vision" they have in the AVP2 game), but give them some extra benefits that make them able to be more like they are in the movies, as in maybe able to fire the plasma caster without dropping cloaking, a much longer invisibility time, able to take on a whole squad of armed soldiers ... so people would find it harder to play as Predators to begin with, but with five Rebels, four Combine, six Xenomorphs, and two Predators, the two Predators are still enough to make a team.

Asymmertrical team-based multiplayer action... has that ever been done before?

Of course you'd need to adjust the player limits for each team on the fly, as a proportion of total players in the game.

Team Fortress 2: Alien Edition!

Please bear in mind that the more delirious an idea, the better it is (for the purpose of the present thread).

I actually was a bit serious: what alien classes from AvP and HL could we use for a TF2-style mod?
The teams would feature any combination of species: the slow and heavy hitters (grunts), the defence experts building acid-spitting turrets (specie?), the cloaking predators as spies, the vortigaunts as medics, the bullsquids as demomen, runner aliens as scouts.
Smaller or bigger versions of canon species may be needed.

Yes, I'm playing too much TF2 and enjoying it even more.

I know that I don't have the programming skills to make a Half Life 2 mod, but I always had one in mind. It's a sequel to Op4 (since I didn't enjoy the Awakening mod, nor did the story make any sense, I decided to think up my own).

Gameplay wise, it would be somewhat akin to Rainbow Six games, as it would have something to do with squad combat. Story wise, the Gman returns to the place he left Sheppard and tells him that he's finally found a use for him. He places Sheppard in the middle of the woods outside of the White Forest base. He goes to it and is recruited into the rebellion. They are then given a mission to find a new prototype Strider (in my mind, it has four legs, stronger armor, missles and the regular weapons, and possibly some sort of energy shielding).

Pretty much the first half of the game would be you hunting down the place where they're keeping the Strider, and the second half would be you trying to destroy it, as it had escaped. The end of the game would end in success, and on the way back (in a stolen Combine helicopter! Now wouldn't that be cool?) you get a birds eye view of the train Freeman is on, and of the destruction of the Citadel.

The shockwave sends the copter spinning down into a crash- the end. That would leave the obvious idea that "Dammit, I be dead" OR the player could be wondering "Did I live?" and if the mod got popular enough that would open up possibilities for a sequel. What do you guys think of that idea?

I had an idea for Shepard's return, in fact I had a full game flow ready to map, and even did one of the opening levels partially. Shepard would be inserted by the Gman into a stalker train during the week Gordon was in the slow teleport. His pod would malfunction and the Combine would stop the train to secure Shepard's pod. Rebels sack the train and free Shepard. He receives his PCV from a storage box on the train when a minor Combine recon party attempt to retake it. They fight off the Combine and ride the train into a Combine Depot inside City 17. The train is stopped momentarily by a braking system and a lockdown of the train station, where Shepard must get off and unlock the train track. Once he does, the train rams down a Combine barricade (one of those massive moving wall sets) and Shepard must catch up with it on foot but is chased by a Combine Helicopter. Once he reaches a depot, there is a large ambush and Shepard must make his way up out of the gorge the depot is located in to access the city streets once again. In this part of City 17 the fighting has dissolved into trench warfare. (Bastonge with combine technology?) Shepard makes his way through the streets from trench to trench, dodging sniper fire and Combine mounted guns, as well as the odd Strider. He also fights through a Nexus before eventually having to take an underground route as Striders begin to lay waste to the entire section. (Remember how Alyx commented on "striders tearing the hell out of this place" in Ep1? Think that, but in *progress.*) Underground he encounters a curious mix of antlion tunnels and sewage ducts, running into minor Combine patrol contingents as well as plenty of antlions and other creatures. Eventually he will come out in a large, bombed out commercial district (think of a large mall) and be forced to fight off APCs and other mechanized Combine units. (Perhaps give the player bug bait by this point to even the odds?) After that he comes upon a large power station with a wire stretching off to the Citadel, where he engages in a battle with a gunship or two before climbing up the wire to the side of the Citadel and climbing on the outside of it, being attacked sporatically by stalkers and more gunships. Shepard will enter and exit the Citadel several times, climbing on balconies and such to make his way ever upward. He reaches the top when Gordon blows the core, blasting him off and he is about to fall to his death when the Gman saves him and throws him back in stasis, congratulating him on his success in clearing a path for Barney and Gordon to reach the Citadel.

Someone, send this to Gearbox.

That sounds pretty cool. Maybe it could be implied that some of the rushing soldiers in the Citadel scenes in Half Life 2 weren't rushing to prepare for Gordon, but in actuality where going to fight off Sheppard.

Thats is a pretty awesome scenario. It would make an awesome mod. You mention that Sheppard arrives in the week Gordon is in the slow teleport. So how would you simulate the week passing by before Sheppard attacks the citadel? Also it might be kind of juicy if Sheppard climbed up to the top of the citadel, to acctualy SEE Gordon, then be blasted off the building by the citadel explosion, just to have an homage to that fleeting moment in OpFor when Gordan jumps through the Xen portal
