Just the fruit of my younger days spent with yellowed paperbacks. :-)
And how could I have forgotten to mention the svelte gynoids and the handsome androids?
They work as menace to human-human relations and are also a source of pathos, because they lack the heart required to truly love.
I heartily recommend a look at the Uncanny Valley hypothesis in conjunction with Robot fetishism. Obviously not safe for work.

gynoid? Goodness, your expertise on these matters truly knows no bounds!
Of course we must consider

But then I paraphrase.
I think there's also something to the Captain Kirk philosophy: She's humanoid enough to be hot, it's kinky, and tomorrow she'll probably be 30,000 light years away, so what the hell.
Uh, where were we going with this?

Not sure any more. Probably poorly designed A.I. going bonkers and providing storytellers with great material which leaves us frantically looking for the main switch.

Frustratingly, I always think of good starts for various stories but can never get past a page or two. Chalk it up to short attention span I guess

To get this back on topic....
if you use the DIR command, you are given 2 exe files.
NOTES.EXE gives you the notes/history mentioned earlier.
APPLY.EXE is the fun one.
It starts an application process for joining the enrichment center.
Starting by giving you a UID+L (userid + Letters), then asking you a whole lot of funky questions.
Then to confirm, you enter your UID+L again.
The kicker-
It's like 30 characters long.
you can't copy/paste the UID+L from the screen...
And even worse; IT CHANGES AS YOU WATCH IT. like 1-2 random chars at a time. So typing it into a new page is nigh impossible.
It might be possible to use a screen capture program so you can grab a complete UID. That's the only way I can think of. but haven't tried yet.

I think you're not supposed to be able to successfully enter it. ;)

I did make a screenshot and it didn't accept the text when I typed it in at the end. Thought that would happen, really. I didn't notice that it changed all the time, though.
Also, I'm thinking about regicide right now. And yes, I know what it means :D

If you type play portal when logged in, it takes you to a deleted youtube video.

I believe it was just the original Portal trailer. You can still find it on Steam.

I also tried to do the screenshot trick to enter the UID+L, and it didn't work... considering the contort AI of GLaDOS, though, maybe I should have written the letter L after the userid... you see? UID+L!
Ok, it's silly, but it's just my second post, and my mind is still entangled thinking about who Minerva actually is... other than the forum goddess, of course...

May have had difficulty operating the portal gun? I'd have loved to have seen the poultry-based playtesting at Valve.
So THAT'S where Italy's chickens went...
