Still, I just wish they did something, like unlock a neat Ep 3 teaser video

On another note, did anyone else notice that our friend Barney, made no appearance in Ep 2? Did I miss something? I don't recall him being killed. I remember seeing him off at the end of Ep 1, but then, not even a mention of his name in Ep 2?

I'm also still waiting for that moment, when the screen is black, and you hear the echoing footsteps of the G-Man's polished loafers, as he approaches fixing his tie only to utter "Time to wake up Corporal Sheppard." Wouldn't it be awesome if in Ep 3 Gordon either get a nemesis, or a partner that is capable of as much Combine ass kicking as himself. Anyway, I've gotten off topic now, so I will kindly shut it

I suppose the question is, where did the trains end up at? Barney could have stayed there or gone to a different resistance base nearby. I did expect him to be at White Forest though, seeing as the rest of the main characters (pretty much) were there, and he would have been helpful in the strider invasion.

I hope Chell from Portal ends up helping Gordon, although how she will get from wherever the aperture labs are to the Borealis I don't know.

Also, exactly how powerful can the Aperture portals be? Given that what I'm assuming is a large stationary generator moved an enitre boat and part of the dock from America (I'm guessing) to the pole must be pretty powerful. Maybe we'll se Gordon travelling to Xen, the Gmans realm or the Combine homeworld in Epi 3?

I'm also curious about what Chell (I guess that is the portal character's name?) does after the destruction of Glados. However that is for the portal thread

Yeah, her name's Chell. (It mentions it in the closing credits, someone's face got borrowed to be hers.)

I'm curious about what happened to Barney, too.

As noted by Elyscape on the blog beast, Gordon didn't get the SALFRCD*. A bad thing or a good thing?

If you miss the action, Riot Act has some quite challenging bits when the antlions need a lot of your cunning help to get to the juicy transhumans in gas masks.

well, seeing that the only time you kill a guard is right at the very end of the Antlion section, having the Vort extract the baitball then would have been kinda useless.

Still, once I got to that boss-fight, I did notice the lack and felt a little cheated. Just a little.

You know who I want to see in the next Ep? Adrian Shephard. I expected him to have shown up by now, especially during the insurrection at the end of Half-Life 2 and during Ep 1.

Perhaps, just as the Gman deposited Freeman at City 17, he will have deposited Shephard with the Aperture team on the Borealis.

Yes! I have been preaching for the return of the Corporal. Opposing Force was a personal favorite (can you say M60?). I really hope he still has some part to play in Half Life. I did play one third party mod where you played as Adrian. It was alright, but nothing like Minerva. I can't remember the name though.

The EP2 Gordonmobile is an interesting automotive specimen, can anyone tell if it is based on a real-life car model? The front and rear end is nearly identical to that of a Dodge Challenger.

On a somewhat related note to the car. I was thinking, how cool would it have been if, instead of having an infinite machine gun ammo crate, you could simply open the trunk and store ammo or health you find along the way inside. I don't have any kind of modding skills, but I just wanna throw that out there for some of you mod savy types

I have heard that it is based upon, if not IS, a Dodge Charger. I base this claim upon what I've read in PCGamer, and bear in mind that Kieron Gillen is no more an expert in these matters than I am.

That would be an inventory device, like in Fallout 2 or in a multitude of role-playing games. The issue is not that of coding the thing, but of game balance.

In HL2 (and in most FPS games), each encounter is designed with a certain ammo, health and shield (HEV) points in mind. Pickups are placed at defined locations and in specific quantities to make the game beatable if you play carefully, but challenging (unless you're the type to kill Hunters with bottle caps in your sleep).

Allowing the player to carry comfortably all unused (not picked up) gear in the car's trunk or in a "backpack" breaks this balance and makes most encounters trivial. If you start the fight at 100 HEV points, load up to 100 points mid-combat and then reload another 50 at the end, the challenge of this encounter (and of the next one) is greatly reduced and makes some encounters trivial. In the current system, the player has to be careful to conserve the limited amounts of ammo, health and HEV points. With an inventory, you'd gulp down mana... sorry, batteries and simply carry on...

I wrote "comfortably", because you could conceivably carry (grav gun) every grenade and healthpack you find from City 17 to Nova Prospekt and back, but it would make the game extremely boring. Carrying a certain garden gnome would be a different matter altogether...

I looked through the achievements and noticed the "Little Rocket Man" one and couldn't figure it out. And then I found the gnome the next time I started to play Episode 2 again and I went "Wait, this is...And I have to bring it...Shit." But it's so much fun! He's not as cool as the companion cube, but he'll have to do.

I'm wondering about the lack of cardboard and shiny discs. Having bought the lot on Steam, do I genuinely miss the dust gathering objects or is it merely the lack of Christmassy excitement at receiving (buying) a box and unwrapping it? Anyway, my better half is glad that I don't bring home new boxes to put on shelves.

I don't think I can buy Steam products from stores anymore. It just feels dirty.

Not to mention the queues, the cost of getting there and the sight of 11 year-olds whining to get their Mum buy them a 16+ rated game.

I'd have to agree with you there, however it would still be nice if I had something physical. I have built up a collection of games cases which I have on display on my shelf, and it would be nice if I could add say, HL2:EP2 to that collection, rather than the god forsaken 'orange box'. However the main issue is that, living in Australia, internet speed is awful, and thus it would take forever* to download such a game.

I do look forward to playing EP2, but for example, even with the disk that came with the (Australasian) boxed set of EP1, it took 3 solid days of updating before it was ready to play.

On the note of achievements, I'd have to agree with the above in that it would truly detract from the game play. I've always seen HL to be very different from other shooters, but this - I believe - is a step in the absolute wrong direction.

*Or what is left of eternity, stupid fossil fuels....
